004. The Lovers
This vase is based on one of a pair of vases
produced by the Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory in 1769. The
vase is called ‘Bachelier à anses tortillées’
after the designer, Jean-Jacques Bachelier. The pastoral scene is
after Francois Boucher’s painting Les amants surpris.
The vase is currently in the Wallace Collection, London. Watercolor
and gouache on gesso board.
